Record your audio in Audition, then import it to Premiere Pro

Record voiceover directly in Premiere Pro

If you need only basic audio recording and insist on having it recorded directly within the Premiere Pro timeline, luckily Adobe lets you do just that. Let’s break down the steps.

  1. Add your media file to record over.
  2. You’ll notice a small microphone item next to the solo track icon inside the timeline heading. Right-click on that and open Voice-Over Record Settings, and double-check to make sure you have the right device selected as your input. You wouldn’t want to record via your poor-quality laptop mic while you have a professional microphone hooked up. If the icon is grayed out, the most likely issue is that you have an input device selected that is currently not available for some reason.

3. Click on the microphone icon when you’re ready to start recording and hit it again to stop.

If you want more control over your audio recording and wish to edit it in Audition, simply right-click on it and find “Edit Clip in Adobe Audition” option. It’ll open Adobe Audition and immediately transfer the recording in between the applications. When you’re done editing the audio file, the saves you made will also automatically apply to the one in Premiere Pro.

Some mistakes you might make along the way may cause your audio&video to be out of sync. If that's the case, read our tutorial on fixing out of sync audio and video in Premiere Pro. We covered 3 ways you can fix the issue in a detailed way.
